When it's 4th of July and fireworks are going deep into the night, what better music bed to crank up than the Spinal Tap Soundtrack? I did just that, and it made perfect sense.
The songs were better in the movie of course. Designed for maximum laffs, a parody that hit too close for some. "Stonehenge" was a wink and a nod to the Black Sabbath Born Again stonehenge stage setup I witnessed only one year prior to this film. Tears rolled down my cheeks when Stonehenge was unearthed in the film.
Following the common path of the 20 year British Metal Veteran, you get the Beatles and Flower Power eras closing the record, leaving the aural playing field for the mainstream headbanging audience the record was sold to. "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" is Kiss style for example.
You can't really go wrong with the memorable anthems: "Hell Hole," "Sex Farm," and of course "Big Bottom."
Talk about mud flaps!
