The meat of this record is the epic twelve minute "Porn Wars" track doing a Only Money style tape pastiche of the Senate Judicial Hearings on obscenity in music. This attracted Southern Republican conservatives like Hollings and soccer mom Democrats like Tipper Gore wife of Al. Zappa was once of the testifying musicians and he dutifully and gleefully manipulated tape of hearing highlights like the Mentors quote "bend over and smell my anal vapors" and "fire and chains.." repeated ad infinitum out of context. A favorite of mine then and now.
The rest splits the difference of 80's Zappa so you get a vocal social commentary "We're Turning Again" opening the record and Zappa fusion instrumental "Aerobics in Bondage" closing it. Cast of characters includes such luminaries as Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Ike Willis. Outside of a guitar explosion in "What's New In Baltimore" there is little that stands out to me otherwise.
I was shocked to find a Capitol/EMI catalog number but Barking Pumpkin was long out of CBS Records by this time. In fact, MCA bounced Zappa, refusing to take on the Thing Fish muti record project. Even more shocked that the European version did away with "Porn Wars" and added several more songs. "I Don't Even Care," "One Man, One Vote," and "H.R. 2911,"
Outrageous filth!
