Sad To See It Go: No

I've probably spent more time on this EP to date than I have on the Olé Tarantula release it is promoting.  This is essentially an electric live EP with "Olé..." tacked on at the beginning in Yep Rock's  hopes of getting some more life out of last years album.  There really isn't any good reason for me to prioritize this, as I bought Ole Tarantula brand new when it came out, but somehow I don't even remember my single play of it.  There's always quality in any Robyn Hitchcock release, it just boils down to put it in time to listen to it a few times.

So I'm spending Saturday writing on some titles that were procrastinated writing about for whatever reason before I do my Sunday storage run to get the past weeks orders.  This title has multiple reasons.  The first is the purchase was paired with Storefront Hitchcock, which seemed a more substantial release to write about, although I found this EP to be a more enjoyable listen.  The second reason is there were bonus videos that I put onto my hard drive and wanted to watch before writing about the album.  With an open Saturday afternoon, I finally decided this would be the time to watch them, give the EP another pass on my hard drive.  The videos were an animated and live performance of "Adventure Rocket Ship," which opens Olé Tarantula. .

As for the live selections, I managed to ignore them all, even the ones from Underwater Moonlight that Ryko reissued when I interned there in 1991.  Well, maybe not "Queen Of Eyes" but even "Give It To The Soft Boys" somehow never seared in my brain.  The Soft Boys whole catalog I listed to and even had in my collection for many years and still somehow never IMBEDDED these albums.  Like much of the Hitchcock catalog they were always for further review, and that further became further and further and as albums like Jewels For Sophia and Spooked were bought upon release, played once and filed away.  30 years have gone by and I still deem the Soft Boys catalog as warranting further review.

So November 26th, 2006 was a day that would live on in infamy for these 7 live Hitchcock tracks recorded at the Crocodile Café in Seattle.  Better than the Storefront Hitchcock performances by far.  Now that I look up the link, I see that there was a 2008 Documentary on Hitchcock that I never knew existed entitled Sex, Food, Death...& Insects which now joins Storefront Hitchcock in the lore of video matter I have never sat back and watched but probably should.

I guess that's why they make these confounded EP things.

For further review.
