Stick 'em up boys, it's the Fun Lovin' Criminals!

No record screams mid-90's Marz Bar NYC more than this one.  Constantly blared on the jukebox, with watered down Jamisons and alternating round  "buybacks" in hand, the hits just keep on coming.  "Scooby Snacks," "The Grave and the Constant," "Smoke 'Em," "Bombing The L," with it's "Smoke On The Water" nick/interpolation,  "Bear Hug," and of course "The Fun Lovin' Criminal" were played relentlessly there for a good 5 years.  Since that is the peak era of that bar, I have a bit more of a kneejerk appreciative nostalgia for this in a Pavlovian manner

I definitely got this from a record club either Columbia House or CDHQ in a close out discount section a few years after this came out.  Why not add this barroom classic to my collection on the "cheap."  Nowadays, it is still a cutout dollar bin find somewhere.  I don't know how many people actually cared about it outside Marz Bar.  It was a minor commercial hit peaking at 144 in it's 12 week run on the Billboard album chart.   Some of the tracks are non-Marz hits for good reason, but there are more wins per capita than almost anything else this side of the king of the genre, House of Pain.

Despite being couched in a Brooklyn hip-hop setting, this falls into a more "alt-rock" category and aesthetic. The out of place track "We Have All The Time In The World" ventures into a straight alternarock zone with Mazzy Star/Chris Isaac inspired guitars with the hip hop drums.  Normally I would hate this shit, but hell I've heard quite a bit worse.  With catch phrases like "we've got the crazy crew, you think you coming we say na na na, we've got the block locked up!" or "Smoke 'em! Smoke 'em! Smoke 'em if you got 'em!" make this subliminal soundtrack worthy.

If you ain't got 'em, then you hit rock bottom.
