"You want some hummus?  Well HUM ON THIS!"-David Yow, 1991, Cambridge, MA, Middle East Cafe, over dinner

The legendary WMBR sessions I had taped off the radio back in 1991 as it aired.  The were making a name for themselves as a great live band after the first EP, Pure, was more of the Big Black drum machine backed template.  This was a record that was played relentlessly in my household in 1989, but the evolution of the Jesus Lizard required a live drummer.  "Monkeytrick" was an instant classic.  But Mac MacNeilly fleshed out Pure hits like “Blockbuster” into even more of a standard if that was possible.

Iowa’s Thinking Fellers were a Boston radio mainstay around that time and "2X4S" was certainly played by me on air many a time in it's studio form.  Velocity Girl were part of the Simple Machines scene that evolved to Sub Pop.   I bought a few singles prior to the Sub Pop era but then lost interest.

All these bands were live mainstays.  I know I've seen them all multiple times in this era.

'MBR was and is worth getting up to.
