Not to be confused with the funkier Tar Babies from Madison on SST, this archival  reissue from 1978  is from Rochester, NY.  Distorted Levels and Tar Babies contained within are the late 70's bands that would evolve into the more established (and polished) Chesterfield Kings.

These bands were gritty and raw.  Greg Provost sang in both bands and guitarist Andy Babiuk came in for the Tar Babies  before the two went on to the Chesterfield Kings.  These are Raw Power/Metallic KO influenced numbers.

When I bought this I didn't realize exactly what it was.  The cover looked cheap and sleezy and the $5.99 price tag for a 7" in the 80's screamed low pressing and not easy to find.  Also it clearly was not at any radio station I was on, which was inspiration enough for many singles I purchased in the 80's and 90's.  "Rejected..." was the hit of the record and I remembered  it well before playing it for the first time in decades.  The 2 songs on the B-side actually came out in 1978 as a single but seemed less significant even though they came out on their own in their day.

What do you call embryonic of embryonic.  Embryonic twice removed?
