This was the only tour I got to see Siouxsie at the Orpheum in Boston. I could've sworn "Voodoo Dolly" was the encore, but the archive says no (though a Dallas set list around that time is longer with that one second to last). Perhaps my memory is correct. The March Violets were supposed to open but they cancelled and replaced by The Raunch Hands, who I liked but made no sense bill-wise.
This was the last Siouxsie album I considered great mostly for the album opener "Candyman." Who could anthemize a child abuser better than Siouxsie Sioux? Or is that a drug dealer? Or both? The candy offered is vague, but Siouxsie delivers top level dramatic goth pathos all the same. The other side opener "Cannons" was my other favorite, a driving acoustic driven war number. The hit was "Cities In Dust" which I still like, and the trippy "This Unrest" made for a solid side 1. Side 2 unexpectedly tailed off a bit from what my memory enjoyed of the entire album. I still enjoy "Partys Fall." Do I sense a "joy of humanity" theme?
Cure, Smiths and Siouxsie, the holy trinity of the black eyeliner set.
