Brian Wilson had enough in the cd era with his albums getting coupled.  After a couple decades he put his fist down and two-fers were no more.

This one is a 1971 truncated repackaging of Summer Days (and Summer Nights!) from 1965 and 1964's All Summer Long.  It was lovingly reprocessed electronically in Stereo.  "Amusement Parks U.S.A." and "I'm Bugged At My Ol' Man" were chopped out of the former, "Carl's Big Chance" and "Our Favorite Recording Sessions" were lopped off the later.

Rolling Stone gave this a 5 star classic review in their first record guide as the originals were out of print.  The music is undeniable.  Hated by some for it's "white breadness" but who else sounded like them in their first decade?  Clearly they worshiped at the rock 'n roll altar of Chuck Berry & Jerry Lee.  Yes, they were in the generational zone of Phil Spector and the Beatles, but they had the left coast to themselves.  Summer Days has my personal faves "Let Him Run Wild" and "Help Me Rhonda."  Everyone from Yo La Tengo to the Descendents to Diamond Dave to the Manhattan Transfer covered something from this songbook.  Genders are inverted for simpler times.

Brian Wilson's problems were hard parental abuse and that evolved into real psychological problems (not to mention some hearing lost from a rough father's hand).  He wasn't made for those time or these times, so he made a fantasy land at the beach instead.

Girls! Cars! Sun! Fun!
