Preston Cleveland aka Preston Long aka PW Long came up through the ranks and achieved bigger heights a few years later grabbing the rhythm section of the Laughing Hyenas to create Mule.  Oddly enough Ann Arbor's Wig went on to be signed to Island Records without PW Long in the Nirvana aftermath where anything with a whiff of "cool" had a shot at commercial highs or the cutout bin.  That CD was the latter and can be found for $2 to this day.  They even got a second shot before they got dropped.

As for this 7" record from several years before, it is indeed the voice you know and love.  Side 1 is a Curtis Mayfield tribute of sorts etched into the outer groove.  Mayfield was paralyzed in 1990 by a fallen light rigging, so the timeline makes sense.  The B-side is a jilted lovers rant against the new boyfriend.  A repeated, song-length threat, without any sort of veil.

Wig toured with Laughing Hyenas in 1990.  I got to see them at the Middle East Upstairs.  It was a day show and my friends Red Bliss played in the middle.  I seem to remember a minor car crash in slow motion in the Red Bliss back seat going over the Mass Ave bridge returning with those guys that day, but nobody died including me.

Ah, memories.
