Another artifact from my Julian Cope completist phase. Cope's power trio with two Spiritualized members, Doggen Foster on Guitar and Kevin Bales on Drums.  This eponymous US CD came out mid-decade in 2005.  It tried to make some order out of the Brain Donor full-lengths and EP's from the first half of the aughts.   This release was a kinder, gentler and shorter version of the UK double CD Too Freud To Rock and Roll, Too Jung To Die from a couple years prior.

This British-indie-drug-rock supergroup of sorts lumber through in a sounds good on paper sort of manner.  Winkin' at Stooges, blinkin' at Dolls, Cope hadn't played bass since the Teardrop Explodes.

This album isn't up on youtube for streaming, but the tracks for the most part are.  The album opens in Stoogesland with "My Pagan Ass."  The song is in the realm of "Loose" with a blood curdling scream at the end.  This was an A-side of a 2003 single.  Next up, "Like A Motherfucker" comes across like a outtake from The Cult.  "Get Off Your Pretty Face" originally found itself of 2001's Love, Peace and Fuck CD from 2001.  This is a 4 on the floor insistent rocker.  "White Van" isn't up for streaming except for a live Cope version.  It's a chugger for sure.

"Get Back On It"  exudes a bit of melody, tangentially taking "So You Wanna Be A Rock 'n Roll Star" into space..  "Love Peace & Fuck" brings us back to the 2001 CD of the same name with the Dolls nod at the end of the song.  "Shaman U.F.O." sounds like a fleshed out Spacemen 3.  "Messages" fades in with almost a straight up heavy metal surge.  Then it kicks into a "Kashmir" meets something else mode.   "Pagan Dawn" sounds like Hendrix Experince backing vocals and closes this compilation.

A nice decade for Cope, alienating fans and making new ones.
