If Mudhoney was the heart of Sub Pop, Tad was the soul of it's defining period...ugly, loud, impervious to anything but it's own rocking mission.  The peak of their run from 1989-1992 was about as great as any "grunge" juggernaut.  Smack dab in the middle were the Albini recordings, coming right after God's Balls dominated the earth like the Behemoth motherfuckers they were.  

Right before the Salt Lick 12" there was this 7" masterpiece. Or was it after?  I can't remember.   "Loser" was an anthem that laid all to waste.  "Cooking With Gas" was a memorable B-side.  I remember being deathly ill on a Sunday night and forcing myself to the Rat in Boston to witness this heavyweight band.  Yes, Tad was a band.  

The peak era of grunge was impossible to sustain, and so was Tad.  Like much of the grunge graduation to the majors, the music wasn't made for the masses and, like many bands of this period making the attempt to crank things up with the big boys,  the records were flawed.   Frankly, they didn't sound right somehow.  Does Inhaler come up with great frequency on YOUR random shuffle?  Tad the man appropriately has toiled over the recent years for short lived bands like Lumbar, Roareth, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth and Hog Molly, who I saw and enjoyed one year in Austin, guessing around 2002.  Still, for a few year period of time, Tad Doyle ruled the world.  

This ruling shall live on in eternity.  

ED. NOTE:  Just got an out of the blue text telling me how great "Rotor" was from Inhaler!  Of course it was the same scribe who bemoaned the low selling price of the Bastards.  Guess I'll have to track it down for a relisten.

    Wow, this was a classic Sub Pop grunge gem. Surprised there wasn't more interest in this one.
