My outdoor bag of abandoned CD's last year continues to bear selling fruit. This time it's the French disco group Voyage. This 1991 compilation has since been recompiled, but the material is roughly the same. The first two albums were US Billboard hits on the top 200 LP and even #1 on the dance chart. The self titled debut peaked at #40, the follow up Fly Away in 1978 peaked at #58.
So what are the standouts? "I Love You Dancer" sounds like "Peg" by Steely Dan. "Let's Fly Away" sounds like TV music but who could deny that wah-synth thing on it. Really the best songs are the first two albums' opening tracks "Souvineers" from the second and first album. The 80's pop era doesn't suit the group as well.
This compiles the first 4 albums: the first record gets 5 tracks, the second, Fly Away, gets 4, Then 2 from Voyage 3 in 1980 and another pair from One Step Closer in 1981. Before I realized the title, I thought "I'm Only Human" sounded like the Human League.
A decent overview, my introduction.
