High 'n' Dry was one of those albums I bought in the early 80's and liked the hits.  Despite forever trying to disavow it, the title track still hold up.  This time the LIGHTS ARE GOIN' OUT! Saturday NIght! I'm HIGH! Saturday Night.  High 'n Dry..  The ballad hit that got an added synth laden remix after Pyromania dominated radio, "Bringing On The Heartbreak" had a pre-power-ballad buildup that was a little better in it's earlier form, even if the synths were subliminal to not really notice them until paying a little more attention.

The other remix on this version was from the 1981 B-side of "Me and My Wine."  This had a party hardy quality along with the opener "Let It Go" that sound ok after all these years.  "On Through The Night" is also pretty good.  That was the title of the debut album, but they used the song of that name here.  "Switch 625" is an instrumental that gets played live by the band more than anything besides Heartbreak.  "No No No," "Lady Strange" and 'Mirror Miror"  are all likeable.  The reservations I had about this album kind've melted away after hearing it a few times.    The saving grace of the album is that it came out in 1981, before the 1983 pop production aesthetic that made the band bigger but not better.  What seemed like merely reissue bonuses at the time are now plain lessons as to what went wrong with commercial rock music in general for that era.

Better than what they evolved into.
