The Glands of External Secretion was a collaboration between Barbara Manning and Bananafish zine publisher Seymour Glass. This means a sweetly sung Beatles cover paired with a poem rant on a one-sided record that can't be streamed. I did have auditory recollection from 30+ years ago while playing the record before shipping it last week, but I really can't recall any specifics now. There is a fancy etching on the B-side of the record that will Fuck Your Needle Up if you dare attempt to play it.
I thought this was a one time collab not worthly of discussion beyond the paragraph above and was shocked to find a massive discography with full length releases stretching into 2025. This was the very first release that I bought right away because I was already a big fan of Barbara Manning whether solo or World of Pooh. The new release is a cassette they made 60 copies of called Baboon and Chest. Nobody bothered to try to digitize it and upload it. In fact, the only album that seems to have made it to streamland is one the venerable Siltbreeze label put out in 2022 called Neck Pillow. Siltbreeze is still going with Puppet Wipes, Fog Lamp and CIA Debutante. Bananafish stopped in 2004. It looks like the last Manning release is Charm of Yesterday, Convenience of Tomorrow in 2023. I never would have thought Glands of External Secretion would somehow have a longer timeline than Bananafish or Barbara's solo output in 2026, but I guess stranger things have happened.
Seems external has become eternal.
