Surrealistic Pillow is notable for being Grace Slick's debut in the established band and containing the megahits "Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit." "White Rabbit" is so seared on rock consciousness that my own band nicked the dah-dah-da-da-da ad infinitum for our decidedly non-hit song "Changing My Tune." But that is neither here nor there.
I never really had an affinity to Surrealistic Pillow the album. "Plastic Fantastic Lover" closes and "She Rides Funny Cars" opens and I know them well. Probably the best thing of this listen is "3/5 Of A Mile In 10 Seconds" which opens the second side and has popped up in other places live. The rest kind've remained background music even after a few listens. I've had an early mastered CD copy since the early CD era and this Mono copy came to me a few years ago in a low end lot of $3 records.
I was surprised this nice condition mono copy was let go for so little and I flipped it a few years later for $30. There were some light scratches on the record and some slight time deterioration that made me grade it VG/VG but those scratches proved inaudible and the cover looked damn nice considering somebody sold a VG+/VG+ copy for over $90, I'd say the buyer got a deal on this. Normally a mono pressing of this is found a little more beat up. If I was pricing it at a store, I'd put it on the wall for $50-75 depending on my mood. I probably opened at 50 and dropped it closer to the median after it sat a year with some blanket % drops when my sales were slower last year.
Do you want to get high?????????????
