Heart's 4th studio album, Dog & Butterfly, was a hit album with "Straight On" (#15 Billboard) and the title track (#34) as the most popular hits. It went Platinum in 1978 and added a second million certified in 1992. The more "rock" songs are on the Dog side and the ballads are on the Butterfly side.
I always thought this album should be a little better than it actually is. Side one grew on me particularly the opening "Cook With Fire" that was a studio track with overdubbed live ambience. The closer "MIstral Wind" has a bit of a Led Zeppelin III feel with acoustics and strings. Definitely a bit more experimental sounding for an AOR record in 1978.'
I've been experimenting with auctioning styles with the accumulating lots I have in my back room. Things have been a little slow with these titles, but this one got snapped up for $3 straight away. Heart have seem to have picking up credibility in recent years.
This album is ultimately one of their better ones.
