Richard Pryor connected with my late Italian grandfather the way that other comedians of the day like Cheech & Chong couldn't.  He loved Pryor except for one thing.  His use of that word he found so disrespectful, it distracted him. That word was Motherfucker.

Well, polite society might try to bury evidence of this 1974 Grammy Award winning comedy album but guess what?  It's motherfuckin' funny!

Laugh out loud funny.  Richard Pryor was the natural evolution of what Bill Cosby started on his stand-up records in the 60's even if Dick Gregory was more of a direct antecedent.  A little rougher.  A little more Black, Jack.  The communication of rhythm, as Pryor calls it.  Also the communication of drunks and yes, White People.  

Funniest joke on the record for me was jail issuing shoes one size too small.  In perfect voice Pryor gives confession under duress. "I'll Tell!!!"  I can't help but laugh every time I hear that.  

Tragedy plus time.
