I first discovered New Bomb Turks in the summer of '92 when I briefly had a DJ stint over the summer at Harvard's WHRB after graduating Emerson and before leaving for NYC.  Somebody had requested a track from Datapanik's Bumped By Karaoke compilation and I pulled their single from the same label with my favorite NBT song "Crying In The Beer Of A Drunk Man."

When this single came out on Seattle's Bag O' Hammers, they had their full length out on Crypt the year before and were cranking out singles and split singles.  This particular one I had no recollection of either track but it's pretty indicative of what the New Bomb Turks sounded like in their peak era.

The A-side, "Sharpen-Up Time" has a gang back up vocal Hey that is jarringly loud.  That makes it sound better for fist pumping.  It also has an Eric Davidson "Yeah..." pause mid song that you could almost recollect live.

The B-side "Laissez Faire Stare" opens with a salesman instruction sample before going their standard buzzsaw.  The sample didn't make the cut on the 1995 singles compilation Crypt put out called Pissing Out The Poison.

I see Eric at most shows of note around NYC since he has lived here for a while.  Occasionally there is an actual reunion though I can't seem to remember one outside of a sold out show at Union Pool I couldn't get into around the time Hunter S. Thompson killed himself.  I ended up just drinking in the front bar with Jubal that night so I think that makes it 2005.

They did play in their hometown of Columbus last February.
