Two albums I definitely enjoyed back in the late 80's/early 90's were the Bevis Frond's Inner Marshland and Walking Seeds' Upwind of Disaster, Downwind of Atonement. This single kicked off the Clawfist mailorder subscription series of artists covering each other. I didn't subscribe in it's day and didn't actually find a copy until I took a London trip in the early 2000's to MEET with the Bevis Frond around the time Rubric reissued Inner Marshland. Fire has since taken over this campaign, but we got 6 reissues deep. Unfortunately we shared distro briefly with UK label that had European license and they imported the reissue then went bankrupt so we had a double whammy of bad luck putting that album out after Reckless. As for Walking Seeds, they came out on Shimmy Disc well before we were in the Knitting Factory office, but I see they are now too going through Fire.
Nick Saloman always said he had two types of fans. One kind like his poppier "indie rock" style stuff. The other wire gristled psych warriors that dismissed that melodic stuff and focused on his lo-fi guitar workout epics. Here we get an example of the latter. This cover of "Sexorcist" cannot be streamed so you'll have to be satisfied with the original. Nick does Liverpools Walking Seeds a little slower and his guitar is more a focal point of the song. It actually sounds like it could be an Inner Marshland outtake except the Walking Seeds album came out in 1990.
Walking Seeds take on one of the finest tracks of Inner Marshland, "Reflections In A Tall Mirror." That one is probably my second favorite on the album after "Termination Station Gray." Apparently this can't be streamed either so you might want to snap up one of the 20 some-odd copies up for sale on Discogs before it becomes an expensive once overlooked item. Prospectors, start your engines!
It is more fun to come across it in a shop and crank it up at home.
