I got a second copy of The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys last year in a small record lot, forgetting I still had one sitting in my storage space.  This reissue from 1986 still had the die cut cover with the corners cut off.  Steve Winwood was at his solo commercial peak and would stand for no less.  The Island label was a totally 80's purple, having done away with the cool 70's labels for a more "modern" approach.

The lone hit on the record is the 12 minute plus title track.  A rant against the suits of the music industry with an extended musical jam.  He buys a car from the profit of your dreams.  In an odd way it reminds me of "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'" by the Stones, which may be why it became a commercial powerhouse. Somehow, this was a holdover for classic rock radio at least in it's early stages of being a format.  I'm not sure if it's survived the cut lately now that Gen X grunge gets on the playlists.

The rest of it is solid Traffic.  I mean do they ever really have a bad album?  For me the opener and closers are my favorite: "Hidden Treasure" and "Rainmaker."  Only 6 tracks on the whole record.

The rest of it is mood music for sure.
