Top flight comp from the late 70's Belfast band that are still going today. When you think of Irish punk you mostly think of Stiff Little Fingers, but Protex is really good melodic power pop punk. This semi official German release compiles released singles from the late 70's with outtakes. You can tell there is some sort of gravitas with a release like this and it's hard to believe it isn't a legit release. I listed this 8 years ago from a consignment collection and somehow listed it as a CD although the buyer was happy to take the vinyl for $70 plus shipping (!). There weren't any other copies in the US listed. Guess I gotta do accounting to the original owner soon!
Side 1 is pretty much an A-level collection of the bands studio singles, nearly approaching Buzzcocks level Singles Going Steady. Side 2 however is outtakes and live odds and sods and with a band like this the singles are enough. Still, it is nice to have them all in one place. Protex are playing Union Pool in Brooklyn in March and I think I'd like to check that one out. I never really got around to listening to this band until today, although it seems very familiar punk rock bar music.
Convenient assembly for the casual listener and the deep diver.
