Sad To See It Go: No

I was looking forward to giving this a dedicated listen for something a little different.  This was a big critic record which was why I bought it at the end of 2007 or so, but I don't think I ever got around to listening to it start to finish, at least not consciously.   I always liked hearing "Paper Planes" while out and about.  The Clash "Straight To Hell" interpolation was fun in a hit setting but the the bullet percussion is what makes this song.  It's a rumpshaker.

The other punk rock nicks aren't as interesting to me.  The album opens with the Modern Lovers "Roadrunner" in her "Bamboo Banga."  "20 Dollar" uses "Where Is My Mind" by the Pixies. There some Bollywood film samples and Blaqstar's "Hands Up, Thumbs Down"  in "World Town."  Blaqstar works with MIA so there ya go.

Since MIA incorporate elements of dance, hip hop and alt-rock, she's got an original take on what she is doing that connects worldwide.  The UK was always a bit different this way.

The US could never have produced this, but it ate it up.

ED NOTE: “Boys” has been going through my head since I saw the video after a couple regular listens.  A war!  How many????…
