This 2-fer early Ryko remaster combined Zappa's 1974 Apostrophe' with The Mothers' 1973 Over-Nite Sensation.  This was among the first wave of Zappa CD reissues and as the newness of CD reissues wore off they were split up to their original releases.

Although this came from a consignment collection, I also bought this in the late 80's.   I had Apostrophe' on vinyl and was happy to finally get "Dinah-Moe Humm" having heard it years before on the radio.  That and "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow" were the "hit" tracks that sometimes made it on the  commercial airwaves as late as the 80's.

The albums themselves make for a nice CD pair, neither are that long.  The songs are a bit more concise than the live albums that were coming out earlier in the  70's.  As for the highlights: "Saint Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast" sets a circus tone.  The title track of Apostrophe is the standout guitar track of Apostrophe. "Stink-Foot"  and we learn about the place that keeps imaginary diseases.

As for Over-Nite Sensation, the opener "Camarillo Brillo" sounds like a Thin Lizzy melody.  As for guitar workouts they are all over the place, as expected with Zappa.

As "commercial" as Zappa got in the 70's.  Move to Montana?

Yippie-yi-yo-tay-yay!
