Harvest Moon a couple decades later sequel to Neil's biggest seller, Harvest is a solid classic in it's own right. The songs have held up over time for the most part. That said, I struggle to find anything in depth to further say about Harvest Moon. I bought it upon release and played it to memory when it came out a bit more than some of his other albums from the 90’s, even with my Crazy Horse bias post Freedom.
My personal favorites are the loping "One Of These Days" and the title track "Harvest Moon." Maybe the only thing I can hold against this album is I like other ones by him better. I prefer rockin Neil and acoustic Neil to country hitmaking Neil and experimental Neil. I mean it is Neil Young in a mellow mood, so it ain't Neil Young and Crazy Horse. That said, it feels like a major work, when many of his other records in the 90's fell in the B+/- range and the aughts continued that trajectory. He cranks out a ton of great music and you've gotta be on it to take it all in.
This one, at the end of the day, remains genuinely memorable.
