Pittsburgh post-rock indie band of the 90's that I seem to remember people liking.  I can't recall ever seeing them live, and from the 99 cent sticker on it, I'm pretty sure this was found in the Etheria or possibly Kim's closeout singles bin.   I'm guessing WFDU had it and I played it in new rotation for a few weeks.  I'm also guessing it was my friend Jimmy that liked Hurl because the drummer went on to be in Milemarker with his friend Al from Chapel Hill.  

There were a ton of these one word name bands mining this territory.  The best of the lot would have a peak trajectory of a recording date with Steve Albini on their dime.  Since there were "scene" bands, they tended to sprout up in every major English speaking country  as well as Europe and some of Latin America.  This double record sold to someone in Chile, for example, with a bunch of other similar genre singles.

This record itself has a feel of where the singles wing of American indie on the club level was at.  You could easily see them on the lower part of a bill for Dinosaur Jr or Swervedriver, if the booker didn't have any favors or drawing chits to put on those bills.  They seem like something that might tour with a local headliner of that ilk on the 100 capacity room level.  Of the 4 tracks, "Facemen" is my favorite, that probably was the one I played on the air.

Solid, if a bit non-descript.
