For some reason I always thought Side 1 was Side One over Side A, the comic labeling of the two sides.  What tricksters!  The back cover say no, "Hot Love" is the album opener, not "Elo Kiddies."  The internet has other ideas. Shouldn't 'Elo say hello?

I had this album well before Big Black made a hit out of "He's A Whore" back in 1987.  Before they they became the corporate band every anti-corporate rocker loves, "The Flame" be damned!  Now the question that comes to mind is has this surpassed Heaven Tonight.  The standout track is the Beatles interpolation "Taxman, Mr. Thief."  The Beatles toss off line is central to this one.

While the high points are higher on Cheap Trick, I think I'm going to give a slight nod to Heaven Tonight.  Cheap Trick at it's best is harder rocking, more in line with it being right out of the gate.  Like Heaven Tonight I had an urge to give this album a straight A, but there are a few mid tempo numbers that never resonated with me like the CSN-territory "Mandocello."  

"He's A Whore" certainly is best of a great band at the start of a 5 album run of greatness.
