Septemember 5th, 2020. A text comes in from the Pinch Point editor to The Reverse Collector (TM):
PP: What letter grade would you give this?
RC: Funny i always held this album in low esteem except of course "sister disco" "guitar and pen" and the unlistenable due to overplayed title track...low esteem for the Who is B, I suspect I'd bump it to Faces Dances B+ level if I gave it a spin today. I don't think I've spun it since the day I bought the vinyl used in the pre-CD era. That I never replaced it on CD remastered or otherwise says something
PP: I shoplifted the 8-track around the time it was hitting cut-out bins (79, maybe?) Always liked it (B+) and LOVED "905" from the get-go.
Listening to it right now, I would raise it to:
A-
Haha, the played to death title track does still have one of the best opening couplets in rock history, though (smiling emoticon)
RC: I'm trying to think of a who record i have not listened to start to finish since the list time i heard who are you--i think none even post keith moon!
PP: Is there actually one that came after Endless Wire?
RC: Yes Who came out in 2019...I thought it was pretty good actually for the couple listens i gave it
Well, today I listened start to finish right after Meaty, Beaty (same buyer). "Trick of the Light" stood out a little more today. Otherwise, the conversation from last Fall holds. I kind of enjoyed "Who Are You" focusing also on "you can go sleep at home tonight/if you can get up and walk away..."
I didn't bump the grade up until I thought about said couplet.
