Why does a man purchase a Guided By Voices EP out of an infinite discography?  Particularly, I ask that of this one.  Why me?  The $3.98 sticker was awful tempting flipping through the bin at Adult Crash in 1996. I actually lived on 5th between first and second that year and would brave the elderly NYCA buildings wind tunnel to cross over to Ave A to buy CD's and singles at that store.

The newness of the title in the bin I'm sure was another factor.  I cared enough to buy the full length Under The Bushes Under The Stars which contained this EP's title track. I'm guessing brand new at Sounds on St. Marks.   In all honesty I don't think that one made it beyond a single pass, but I knew "The Official Ironmen Rally Song" quite well from memory upon playing this release.

For the rest, "Why Did You Land?" has a nice Sonic Youth style, with the standard Pollard vocal melodic bombast.  Kim Deal guest stars on the closer "June Salutes You!"  A Dayton lo-fi frenzy. "Deaf Ears" turned mine deaf the few times I played it.

Maybe that's the level of effort that one deserves.

Bob opens Street-Legal.  Coincidentally, this was the amount of time he was a professional recording artist.  I wouldn't pin Bob on railing about his place in the marketplace, but I wouldn't put it past him to sneak it in either.  However, in my fantasy world,  Bob isn't bound by these earthly pursuits lyrically.  He can get paid and hash out issues with management and the help on his own ...
