This was a parody record by the NYC band Artless, known for releases like Crassdriver and Boy With A Cunt. Leader/Producer Mykel Board was one of the more interesting scribes at Maximum Rock 'n Roll. Some columns you read like him and Jennifer Blowdryer, and some you'd skip.
When I bought this, I had no idea what the fuck it was. For all I knew it was a mishmash of the bands they were making fun of ala Minuteflag. The A-side is calypso meets "SY Style" noise, the B-side filters Bon Jovi through a Swans lens. I don't know how I found out it was a parody, maybe MRR itself. Oddly enough, with the Placebo release, I placed Artless on par with those bands around 1986.
The "cult" of these bands was not quite upon us even with labels like SST and PVC that got them out after Neutral Records put them on the recorded map. Yet, clearly they had an impact on Artless. They could smell something on the horizon even G.G. Allin couldn't muster after chugging laxatives.
The stench of acceptance.
