“you don’t know me, fool/you disown me, cool”

As good a 1988 rap soundtrack sampler as you can get.  Ice-T's "Colors" is probably the best song of his career. His game ain't knowledge, it's fear.  Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full" is certainly career definining,  although this is the Cold Cut remix.  I forgot how much I liked the Salt n Pepa song "Let The Rhythm Run"  back in my radio years.  Kool G Rap (with an uncredited DJ Polo) and Big Daddy Kane I bought outside of this after this soundtrack.

The "sexy, devastating, awesome and precious" Roxanne Shanté's "Go On Girl"  and 7A3's "Mad Mad World" were the tracks that stood out for me today.  I accidentally sold my 7A3 album for a loss to some guy in the UK last year so I'll have to stream them to dig deeper.

Every track is interesting, even soundtrack variety tracks from Decadent Dub Team and Rick James' alternate theme song fit.  Start to finish loud in headphones I was never bored.  I cheated with a stream listen as the first week of April was particularly jammed  out with orders I didn't have time to spin before mailing.

As for the rappers, they kept out the fluff and the management favors, in exchange for artists you actually want to listen to.

Now I've got to get around to seeing the movie after 30+ years of procrastination.

Bob opens Street-Legal.  Coincidentally, this was the amount of time he was a professional recording artist.  I wouldn't pin Bob on railing about his place in the marketplace, but I wouldn't put it past him to sneak it in either.  However, in my fantasy world,  Bob isn't bound by these earthly pursuits lyrically.  He can get paid and hash out issues with management and the help on his own ...
