Memphis' The Grifters cranked out the noise-pop in the early 90's. There was an album and 4 singles before this with another full length the same year as this single. Tour, and crank 'em out was the way it was done.
This particular single wasn't a particular standout. If I'm going to be particular, I'd say perhaps the "Soda Pop" single I liked a bit more. This record sold to someone who also bought Pavement, and I guess those early releases are the granddaddy of that scene. You can throw Red Red Meat in there also. I liked them all to the point of buying their new releases on a regular basis deep into the 90's.
The B-side is a bit of a slow-core ballad. I don't like bringing up Slint, Albini or Dinosaur (Jr) but you could lump all thise in as peripheral influences. The A-side is a little more upbeat with a crud fi solo. The Southern influence in noise rock.
The Grifters were quallity stalwarts of the 90's that didn't make it to the next decade.
I can't say I really missed them. Perhaps I would've caught a gig if they continued to be around. I didn't look into Bloodthirsty Lovers or Dragoon. Amazing how bands that acheived a certain level of note can fall back into the woodwork if you don't relentlessly keep up. I had to look at the discography to see if they were still cranking out records and touring all this time.
I wouldn't have noticed either way otherwise.
