Excellent second album from British rockers led by the recently deceased (well a year gone at 63) Barrie Masters.  This is really top shelf guitar rock, post glam.  They get lumped in with punk rock world the way the Dictators or Radio Birdman do.  Young in the era, and a little less slick than the ordinary major label fare.  Lived to tour well beyond youth.

Blue collar to the bone with eyes on the their elder oppressors.  "Ignore Them" says Barrie.  "Do ANYTHING You Want To Do" flies the freedom flag.  All authority is suspicious, even your own brain.  "(And) Don't Believe Your Eyes" even renders your vision as suspect.  The album closes with an 8:17 epic "The Beginning Of The End."  The oppressors push "us" out of the way.    A pathos similar to Roger Daltry in his youth. Every eye is jaundiced.  Especially the ones in your head.

Like most people my age, I was introduced to the Hot Rods via the Rock n Roll High School soundtrack with "Teenage Depression."  I managed to find both this and the first album used in Worcester.  An amazing feat in the 80's where the reissue bug hadn't caught on until CD's were more established.  I think my friend Will extolled the virtues of this one.

There is a very timeless sound on this album.  Straight forward rock and roll with little production glop to make it sound dated.  It could've come out anytime and sounded great.  It's a weird time warp mind meld where the very young sound very old while being young and railing at their elders.  Barrie still rails from the grave.

As his elders did and are still doing before him.
