This Pain Teens 7" came as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club that I subscribed to from 1990 or so til about 1993.  They would arrive 2 in a shot and this one was dated May 1992.I can't remember if it was paired with Mecca Normal's split with Kreviss or Rocket From The Crypt, but I can say by this point the singles had larger pressings and fancy glossy covers.  The records were better in 1989-1991 with the foldover covers and series defining artwork.

Pain Teens were a force to be reckoned with.  Vocalist Bliss Blood came from the school of Lydia Lunch served with a Texas twang.  This was served over a Butthole Surfers-style bed of noise and tape samples from Scott Ayers who later recorded under the moniker Walking Timebombs.  On this particular record, there is a bit of an execution theme in both the artwork and the music.  This particular record had little impact with me at the time of release even though I liked the bands album from 1990 entitled Born In Blood, particularly the track "Pleasures of the Flesh."  They had a ton of cassette releases before that, but Born In Blood was the first to be released by Trance Syndicate, the label from the Butthole's King Coffee.  By the time Sub Pop issued this single, Pain Teens were established on the noise rock touring and radio circuit.  Their last album in 1995 was Beast of Dreams which I managed to ignore completely despite having a copy of Destroy Me, Lover from 1993.

Trajectory of focus sometimes coincides with a total timeline, sometimes not.

ED NOTE: "Death Row Eyes" going through my head pretty regularly since I wrote this a few days ago.  It kind of reminds me of "Nausea" by X
