Uniformly excellent mid-80's band with a uniquely Boston straight revved up rock sound brought forth in the clubs there with bands like John Felice/Real Kids or the Outlets, who Band 19 remind me of.  No frills, straight guitar-bass-drums doing 3-4 minute songs.

You get mostly dour lyrics on this ep delivered without great emotion except a rocking sense of defiance.  This debut was issued on the Modern Method label in 1985, the label arm of record store chain Newbury Comics from 1979-1985.  Their claim to fame was the seminal This Is Boston Not LA compilation, but they also issued the aforementioned Outlets as well as hardcore rooted bands like the Freeze and SSD.

The best song here is "Animal Gray" where the topic of death is handled as blankly as possible. "Someone you love has died today. The sky is cold and ANIMAL GREY."  That one would be a good double shot with the Outlets "Can't Cheat The Reaper."   The opener "Your Eyes" is probably the one I remember most from the 80's, but this wasn't a particularly hit-laden record.  That doesn't take away from the overall excellence of sound and performance.

Definitely worth your time if you like straight roaring guitar with bass-drums-vocals only in a 150 capacity room.

Even on a Tuesday.
