John Peel is always an enjoyable host and this continues my catch up on his 1993 episodes.  That I have zero recollection of listening to this pair makes me think I hadn't in 1993.  What was the smoking gun?  Learning after all these years that the MInci in Gorky's Zygotic Minci is pronounced "Monkey."  I actually bought their full length that Thirsty Ear put out later in the decade, but the track here was from a 1993 UK ten inch called Patio.

The big hit here is the original version of Stereolab's "French Disco," the B-side of "Jenny Oderline" which came out on the heels of a slew of early 90's i ndependent releases from the lab.  The Dinosaur Jr. sounding Bear Quartet from Sweden make another appearance from the last show I wrote about.Nouvelle Generation De La Republique Democratique Du Congo make 2 appearances on the back to back episode here.   I was thinking about the distinctive style of their guitar, then Peel mentions on the fade that it was Bongo Wende and we should tattoo the name on his forehead as he isolated the guitar figure.  Peel also liked the motorcycle sounds in Berlin techno's Loopzone's track "Highway 2000."  He also forgot the "Yank Sizzler" in episode 19, but let us know that the non-descript Smile track counted for both.  How nice of him!  He also let us know that at Reading Festival that year he thought Porno For Pyros were terrible and love Madder Rose but played neither.

Always an education with Peel.
