Hot off the heels of their Dunedin supergroup Plagal Grind with Alastair Glabraith and David Mitchell of the 3D's. Peter Jefferies (from Nocturnal Projections, This Kind of Punishment) and Robbie Muir (from The Rip) issued a couple singles in the early 90's together after playing the New Zealand scene roughly a decade in other projects.  Plagal Grind's lone 12" issued in 1990 in their homeland is now a $900 record on Discogs.

This particular single was first issued in New Zealand in 1990, then distributor/label Ajax put out a 750 pressing issue of it the following year.  I didn't know it at the time, I just thought it was an obscure artist from New Zealand where cool stuff seemed to come from at a high rate.  The original issue of this single had a black and white cover and this reissue edition was a negative of that cover.  I wondered if the A-side was indeed "The Fate of the Human Carbine" since it is listed first on the cover, even if it is in small print about the massive "Catapult" lettering.  Also the sides are designated White and Black.  "Catapalt" is white.  Shouldn't black come first to mimic the phrase?  "Catapult" proved to be the better song, at least the one I remembered hearing for the first time in over 30 years.

As good as anywhere to start for Jefferies who still cranked out music another decade before taking a break.
