The late Sam Jayne's Love As Laughter I had liked in their K Records, Olympia formed years and picked up this release on Sub Pop when in came out in 1999. Nowadays it sounds like second rate Drive Like Jehu but I guess that was of it's time. Jayne it should be noted died in the back seat of his car in NYC in 2020 at the age of 46, a victim of an undiagnosed heart ailment.
As for Laughter's third album, I liked it enough to buy the next one in 2001 but I never gave it more than a cursory listen. Having listened to it a few times over the last few days, I'm starting to get used to the songs. The most standout track is the "Untitled" one, even though it's a blips and blurps sort've thing in the middle of guitar rock with double tracked vocals. Another exception is "Margaritas" because the vocals sound a bit like Thurston Moore. The sound of the permanently young.
Definitely indie rock of it's day.
