Blessed with a great radio hit and little else, one is relieved when an alternate version of the title track to All Of The Good Ones Are Taken signals the albums close.  8 years into his post-Mott The Hoople solo career, this album does what every classic rock guy did in 1983.  The result is bland and a bit buried.

But that song!  "All Of The Good Ones Are Taken" is a chorus I first heard in a radio ad before ever hearing the song. So damn catchy and great and repeated with a slightly stripped down approach even as Clarence Clemmons sax remains.

As for the rest, even session stars can’t seem to save the other tracks.   Mick Ronson's guitar gets buried on the plodding "Death 'n' Glory Boys."  80's drums more than Jimmy Rip guitar stand out on "That Girl Is Rock 'n' Roll" which opens side 2.   The rest of the second side is better. The only other song that has shown up live in recent years has another Clemmons appearance, "Seeing Double."  I prefer the McCartney-esque pulse (Wings-era) of "Somethin's Goin' On." and "Captain Void 'n' The Video Jets"  has it's robotic charms.

It's going off and everybody knows.
