Sarasota, FL bass player and guitarist perhaps better known for the band Belching Penguins, Jeff Jewhurst made his mark on Frank Kozik's Man's Ruin label for one release. He is currently on the west coast and playing in The IFIC.
The release reasonably covered Deep Purple's "Highway Star" and the B-side "Obsolete" was a reasonable original. Neither can be found streaming. So why did it sell?
Well, as I've said before, death sells records and in this case the artist was the recent passing. Now all of Man's Ruin is desirable even though I let the buyer bid a dollar less than what I paid for the record.
In this case, I believe the artist sold the record both going in and going out. Kozik was one of the major graphic artists in the underground rock world, up there with Pettibone and Haze XXL. Perhaps better known for his flyers than his label. Those things fill up many a 12 x 36 household frame full of bloated cartoon characters, glowing colors and large lettering.
I often think there should be a blog Music You Can't Stream Online...Until Now!
But you can still buy this one for under $10.
