My first exposure to this was around 1983 or 4 on WCHC. I remember discovering the Holy Cross station in Worcester that only broadcast in mono at 10 watts during the Spring and Fall semesters. It was an oddity for an FM station not to have the stereo light go off on those all in one receivers. "Sex (I'm A..)" was a bizarre one for my 13 year old brain to handle. Soft core porn call-and-response music from rumored ex-porn star Terri Nunn emanating from a Catholic college station. I say rumored because it looked like she had bit TV and film roles in things like TJ Hooker, Family, Lou Grant and Thank God It's Friday and kick started her career underage in a Penthouse Magazine spread in 1976. I didn't know that detail at the time, only that the song seemed "dirty." She was credited in the liner notes for "vocals, bj's."
Nunn had bigger hits with her oral talents deeper into the 80's and the rest of this initially indie release is fairly forgettable new wave. Forgettable, but I kind've like it the same way I kind've like Missing Persons. "The Metro" is probably the next best one or perhaps the belter "Masquerade." You don't really think about "serious" music like Kraftwerk, but now that I see somebody else writing about it mention the comparison, I hear it.
