Well the 3 listen rule worked out with this one because now the track "Falling" is going through my head this morning.
New Zealand's commercial wing of the Flying Nun label released their third and final album in 1993. I got a promo copy somewhere since I had their 1987 debut issued in the US in 1988 on Rough Trade. Since I liked that one, they were still on my radar when this came out but I remembered nothing about it.
One thing I noticed is it was a particularly independent sounding record for a major label particularly Arista. I'm sure there were things done here and there. At some point they toured with The LA's, an actual hitmaker. Sometimes A&R staff wanted cooler bands on the roster that don't necessarily sell major label numbers.
So yeah this is a pleasant album of tracks, that at least now I have a handle on, particularly the opener "Done" and the aforementioned second track "Falling." Others stood out, if not most of them after three listens. If you like this style of late 80's early 90 indie guitar rock, you will be rewarded.
You won't get it on the first listen.
