Sad To See It Go: No

Sitting in my 6th grade class waiting for the box of records from Terre Haute, Indiana to show up made the clock tick negative.  One of the titles was this Who compilation which I was psyched to get because my copies of Who's Next and Quadrophenia were dollar bin copies.  Side 2 of this is all Who's Next.  A chunk of hits on new vinyl made me not feel gipped.  Townsend's vocals sound good in headphones on the right side of your head in "Behind Blue Eyes"   I never noticed the 8 million times I heard it on the radio in the background.

Hooligans, despite repeating a few Meaty, Beaty tracks on side 1, is an excellent companion piece to that album for the rest of the Keith Moon era.  With The Who, every record of the MCA years is some level of A.  This compilation is useful because it has singles tracks not on the album.  This was the first album appearance of "Let's See Action" retitled “(Nothing Is Everything) Let's See Action,"  "Relay" (retitled "The Relay") and "Join Together."  All crucial Who tracks.

Since one can never get sick of "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere" and "I Can't Explain," the eternally overheard "Pinball Wizard" goes by fast enough.  "Squeeze Box," "Slip Kid" and "Sister Disco" are all nice to hear in this context.  Hell, the grand finale, “Who Are You," I've recently started to enjoy again after hearing it too many times in the 70's and 80's.

Nowadays the Soho policeman would know your name before full recollection of “Who Are You?”
