The only live document of the P-Funk extravaganza and a gold record in it's day. Taken from a couple shows that the band notes on the back cover may not be representative of future shows. They had the talent to jam and the enterprise is still going as of today, even if George Clinton crossed 80 and seems to be winding down.
For me the highlight of this is the 15 minute extended "Dr. Funkenstein" with a bass that goes into infinity. Medlies of hits abound with long titles I don't feel like typing out let alone learning. You know the songs, it's all funky. The hip hop era recycled so much of this stuff for example Dr.Dre had a bigger hit with "Let Me Ride" from "Mothership Connection." Hell, Kool and the Gang might've lifted it for "Ladies Night" with live musicians. I also remember seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988 outdoors for free at UMASS open a show with "Get Off Your Ass and Jam" before they were all over MTV but after the era George Clinton was directly involved in their production.
I got this in a $5 box of beat up records when I was 12 or so in the early 80's. This one played alot cleaner than it looked, so the buyer got a little bit of a deal, since this title goes for $20 and up. It came with a poster and iron on that said "Take Funk To Heaven in '77!" Neither were in my copy, and a nice shape one that has them both went recently for $75.
In the 70's the kids all knew the limerick about the Peruvian in the canoe that dreamed about Venus, took out his penis and woke up with a handful of goo.
I never associated it with Parliament.
