Every once in a while the Reverse Collector (TM) is tempted by a lot of low end records on the internet to relist. This often spikes sales, although often of other titles. In this case I bought $100 worth of prog and classic rock lots on ebay, of which this live James Gang album is one. I don't think I've broke even on that hundred bucks to this day, but this sale brings me 8 bucks closer.
Well, at least I finally get to listen to this live James Gang album. Live In Concert, which was recorded in NYC at Carnegie Hall in May, 1971. This was a single album release, but it could've been a double as the whole show on the internet indicates.
I bought Rides Again in early high school after having a conversation at a local Worcester bookstore with a wide selection of cutout imports with a another person flipping with me through the heavily discounted bins. He was raving about the James Gang, and I bought a used copy of Rides Again shortly around that time, if I didn't have it already. The biggest, inescapable AOR hit "Funk #49" didn't make the cut although it was in the set. It does have the Rides Again closer "Ashes, The Rain and I" and "Tend My Garden."
When I was doing Rubric, cohort Kenny always had a CD copy of the debut, Yer' Album laying around and this has the closer "Stop" opening the set as well as "Take A Look Around' and an epic 18+ minute version of "Lost Woman." That leaves the hit from Thirds, ""Walk Away" and the Albert King cover 'You're Gonna Need Me" not on those 3 Joe Walsh era James Gang albums. This 4th one went gold in 1972 when the Walshless Straight Shooter and Passin' Thru were released.
Good guitar record.
