Excellent compilation of the Island years for Cale.  That means Fear from 1974 and the next years two: Slow Dazzle and Helen of Troy.  Somehow I never had those three albums, only this cherry picked compilation that until today didn't realize was a compilation.  Stars of Prog from Phil Collins to Eno to Phil Manzanera make a performing appearance in these years.

"Guts" and "Gun" were the standout tracks for me in the early 90's or so when I bought this.  However, on multiple occasions today I would say to myself,  "damn this is fucking good!"  You get covers of the Modern Lovers "Pablo Picasso" and Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel."  You get Cale standards like the title track from  "Helen of Troy" and "Fear Is A Man's Best Friend."

This is a compilation that appears seamless probably because of the short time span the songs were released.    I'm a little suprised Island compiled the three so soon, but he did move on to IRS for the Sabotage Live album that I did have a copy of years before picking up Guts in the early 90's.  Cale's catalog was catch as catch can those years.  If you saw it in a used bin you snapped it up, or the chance wouldn't come again unless it was the commonly found Vintage Violence.

Nowadays the Cale catatog is tidier and this one hasn't been reissued, even digitally.
