The first official live Clash release came in 1999, well after the band dissolved. You get a mix of recordings from 1978, 1980 and 1982. The rise from Punk to Rock to Pop success roughly in order of the materials release.
The arena sounding generic crowd noise on the early Clash numbers is a little jarring. Maybe it was even real! Pretty much every track on here was a band standard in it's original format, so listening to this you tend to seek out structural abnormalities. Things like "Clash City Rockers" saying shock instead of shocker in the verse. Or killing his baby instead of leaving her, covering "I Fought The Law" by the Bobby Fuller Four.
Good for a listen, but doesn't stick like the studio versions.
