Detroit's Big Chief made a fake soundtrack for a song cycle Mack Avenue Skullgame.  This was based on the Blacksploitation films of the early 70's.  Think Funkadelic meets Shaft through an early 90's grunge haze.

This one I never bought, stopping at the single "One Born Every Minute" that came in the Sub Pop Singles Club mailing, after buying pretty much everything Big Chief put out to date.  I guess I was expecting it to pop up someday in the discount bin.  Sometimes you just can't buy everything and I think in 1993 I had just moved to NYC and was a little lean.  This sold copy came from a consignment collection.

Big Chief were a rock band that could pull of heavy funk in a way that many bands of that era couldn't.  Less parody and poppin' bass with a couple ace appearances from Thornetta Davis in the aforementioned "One Born Every Minute" as well as my favorite track on this "No Free Love On This Street."  This came out before Sub Pop issued a Big Chief backed EP in 1994 and a 1996  headlining full length by Thornetta.  She has maintained her career since on other indie labels and self-releases.

A little long and disjointed for repeated listens.
