"I don't remember you weighing in on mozz and marr yet!" replied the Pinch Point editor after giving the recent list of sales that I may possibly write about tonight. So Smiths indeed makes it's first appearance in thereversecollector.
Sometime in the aughts someone somewhere deemed this the greatest single of all time, so I bought this reissue online for seventy-five cents plus shipping. I was not one to have trolliped around freely to Hatful of Hollow or sulked in misery to The Queen Is Dead. But, I grew to appreciate both those albums.
So what of these tracks from 1983 that came out on a CD maxi-single almost a decade later? Well, "Jeane" is my favorite of the three. The whole thing is exactly what you expect the Smiths to be in the early half of their existence. Mozz drolls, Marr chimes in post-Joy Division reverb-delay-chorus-whathaveyou.
We tried. We failed.
