The companion piece to Play The Devils Music, the Schadenfreude EP came out on CD with 5 tracks from that album. When I first relistened to it last week, I was dozing in and out of sleep and thought to myself that I swore some of these songs were on the album I just reviewed. Turns out I was right. I never fully comprehended that this was an EP with previously release tracks added until today.
The meat of the EP were some good late 80's noise rock. The opener "Shut Your Mind" is a good rocking harmonic pummeler. "Prayer For Blood" is another strong one. Noise blares in blasts amidst the melody leadup that reminded me of The Godfathers "This Damn Nation" for a second. "Magumbo Head" shuts off the turntable with the preamp still running. And that's just the first few tracks!
Overall, a continuation of the reason AmRep put out the first two in the US. The key tracks made it onto singles on Sympathy For The Record Industry and Sub Pop.
This release as configured never came out here.
