When the Pinch Point editor deemed Venus & Mars among the greatest music of Macca, I paused. I always considered this lower upper tier. A- not A. Over the years I've listened and realized that the whole thing was in my brain.
This was an era of reflection before one played a sports arena. McCartney tells the tale through the eyes of a fan. He trots out Silly Willy in hs cast of characters, but it's the generic fan who is the true star of the rock show. Those with long hair down in Madison Square.
You get AM hits like "Listen To What The Man Said" and live numbers like "Letting Go." What more could you want from the man? A reunion with the Beatles??
Venus and Mars are, indeed, alright tonight.
